The Children & Nature Network, which began the first Children & Nature Awareness Month three years ago is an organization that explores different ways to get children back outside. It all began with the book, Last Child in

What are you doing this weekend? If you’re like us (Research and Conservation at the Gardens), you’re getting ready to head out and find some rare and beautiful plants to study this summer. A good way to prepare for that might be our Introduction to GPS mapping class this Saturday from 1-4 p.m. In this class you will learn how we use GPS to locate rare plants in remote and sometimes not-so-remote areas. The lecture portion will teach you about GPS mapping and the “in the field” portion will take you out into the gardens to practice with your unit or give you a chance to practice with ours. Register now and be ready for your next excursion into the Colorado wilderness!

Strut your stuff and come to the red carpet event that opens this year’s gardening season: Denver Botanic Gardens’ Spring Plant Sale.
All you wonderful VIP’s will enter through the new fabulous group entrance and be greeted by one of our 500 dedicated volunteers. Don’t forget to strike a pose in our gift shop and stock up on all your gardening needs.
Then, sashay on up to all 12 plant divisions that not only offer great plants, but, each division provides advice from our knowledgeable volunteers or industry professionals, including the Gardens’ own rock star horticultural staff.
Keep an eye out for this year’s plant division stars: Fruits, Berries, Vegetables, Herbs; Grown at the Gardens, Water-Smart and our newest division “Container Gardening.” This division will feature easy, grab-and-go kits for succulent, shade and sun containers.
Famished or overwhelmed? Nothing that an Izze or panini can’t fix. Stop by the Gardens newest café, Offshoots or stroll to the Monet deck for something on the grill.
After hitting all these hot spots, rock it out in the check-out area.

Corydalis solida 'George Baker' closeup
Everybody knows bleeding hearts (Dicentra) but their cousins, Corydalis, are rarely found in Colorado Gardens. Denver Botanic Gardens is helping change all that. The largely drought tolerant genus Corydalis contains hundreds of species (compared with just a dozen or so of the moisture loving Dicentra) and many of these are in peak form at the Gardens right now. The first picture shows ‘George Baker’, probably the most eye blasting of these spring ephemerals. This picture is taken in my garden, but the combination of draba and corydalis is brilliantly displayed behind the Cactus and Succulent House in the Rock Alpine Garden right now. Go down there quickly! If you poke around the rest of the garden you will find

(Given from Ollie’s Perspective)

Pretty much every day is the same for me. I wake up, do backyard squirrel patrol, wag my tail and try to look cute (not too hard for me to do) so my owner will take me on a walk, eat, sleep, and start it all over again the next day. I’m fine with the routine, but it would be nice to have a little excitement in my life.
It all changed though when my owner came home one day to tell me about Botanic Bow Wow, a Denver Botanic Gardens event geared specifically towards ME!! (and I suppose I’ll bring my owner) I’ll get to network with other furry friends, eat some treats, try to win a contest, get my picture taken, and much more.
