The seeds of innovation
“Imagination is everything,” explained Albert Einstein. “It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” There is great potential for a surge in creativity and sustainability-based enterprises in Colorado in the near future, but without some artistry of the mind, the surge can never occur.
Just a few years ago, Denver Botanic Gardens recognized that, like any organization, we need to innovate and evolve. This has led to enhanced facilities, education programs and Gardens offerings. In a continuation of this evolution, Denver Botanic Gardens will be hosting the Colorado Imagination Conversation on October 20. The event will feature a diverse four-person panel; author David Milofsky, DU professor Dr. Art Jones, Lara Merriken of LÄRABAR and David Slayden from Boulder Digital Works will all be on hand to discuss how imagination will power the economy and help Colorado flourish.
In a time when economic opportunities require a bit more finesse than in previous years, it is increasingly necessary to utilize imagination as a vital tool in work and in life. Imaginative and creative thought can occur at any point in a person’s development and can manifest itself in a variety of formats. According to the Lincoln Center Institute, the Imagination Conversations project will “lead to the creation of an action plan to make imagination an integral part of American education.” We echo that sentiment at the Gardens, fostering the inquisitive tradition to spark imagination in thought.
Often, the first step in innovation is gathering outside of our usual confinements – both physical and psychological – to engage with our peers in a new conversation. Finding a forum to do so, however, can prove problematic. Moderated by the Gardens’ own font of imagination and big ideas, CEO Brian Vogt, the Colorado Imagination Conversation provides a diverse audience the opportunity to interact, chat and pioneer new possibilities.
