Camp Out in the Mordecai Children’s Garden this Fourth of July
Families are invited to join us for a Cottonwood Campout in the Mordecai Children’s Garden over the Fourth of July weekend. It’s the perfect opportunity for a family to try out camping for the first time or for seasoned campers to escape the crowds in the mountains and leave all of the planning to us. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.
Cottonwood Campouts take all the stress and worry out of camping. You supply the tent, sleeping bags and kids, we supply the fun! We’ll help you get your tent set-up next to Springmelt Stream and then fill the evening with fun activities such as Orienteering and Pond Exploration. We’ll even make granola bars for breakfast the next morning. Prior to turning in for the evening, we’ll gather around the campfire to roast s’mores and maybe even sing a campfire song or two. Tired heads will hit the sleeping bag and fall asleep fast. After waking up to the sounds of birds, breakfast will be served and parents can sip coffee while their children play in the garden. Prior to leaving, everyone will plant something to take home.

Mordecai Children’s Garden on a cold spring day
Hello Friends!
Brrrrrrrr! It sure was chilly this morning when I woke up. The Children’s Garden looked much different today than it did when I woke up yesterday morning. The ground was covered with just a hint of snow and the trees and daffodils were covered in just enough ice to make them sparkle.
I have been a very busy Marmot these last few weeks! I’ve made two new friends named Mr. and Mrs. Mallard. I often run into the Mallards early in the morning and late in the afternoon when they stop by Pipsqueak Pond for a snack. Watching them dunk there heads under water to search for food is always so interesting to watch. I didn’t see my friends this morning, but I did see the foot prints in the snow they left behind. I hope I will run into them this afternoon.
I have been busy overseeing construction of the Home Harvest Garden. Our gardeners and amazing group of volunteers have been working hard building new raised beds for the garden. I’ve also been trying to decide which vegetables we should plant in the garden once construction is finished. Do you grow any vegetables at home? What is your favorite type of vegetable to grow?
The warm sunshine is quickly melting away any sign of yesterday’s spring snow. I’m off to enjoy this nice sunny day.
Hope to see you soon!
Your Friend,
Digger
Mordecai Children’s Garden Open This Weekend!
What a wonderful winter I had snuggled up in the Mordecai Children’s Garden waiting for the first signs of spring. I knew it was time to come out of hibernation when I felt the warm sunshine and saw little flowers popping up by Pipsqueak Pond!
I am excited that my friends will be visiting the Children’s Garden again this weekend. When you stop by the Children’s Garden make sure to keep an eye out for the little signs that spring is right around the corner. The Children’s Garden is amazing this time of year. Every day I discover a new bud ready to bloom, birds getting ready to make nests, and new sprouting green leaves.
The Children’s Garden is open today for members only, and tomorrow to everyone. Stop by this weekend and enjoy your favorite Children’s Garden activities.

This year’s camps offer opportunities to go behind the scenes and meet the professionals, design and plant a garden, travel back in time and experience life on a working farm, explore trees and forests from around the world and so much more. Whether your child is a budding scientist, a gardener, a chef, an artist, an explorer or an adventurer, every camp offers something right up their alley and will open their eyes to new experiences.
In addition to the popular summer camps at the Gardens, we’re also offering a spring break camp, camp at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield and numerous one day Mini-Camps during school holidays. Our complete offerings include:
