First Concert of Summer

Watching a concert at DBGimg_0408.JPG

Cool smooth sounds of soul fill me.  Pink clouds dust my cheek and wine lingers on my lips.  A crescent moon appears over our shoulders.  Friendship and community surrounds us.  My heart swells and life is good. Good vibes abound as I listen to the Neville Brothers at the first of our summer concert series.  Although the forecast was for rain, the deal struck by Brian Vogt (our CEO) with mother nature held–we must have done our part with the recycling because it was a perfect evening.  Sitting on the northern slope of the amphitheater, I enjoyed seeing the gigantic mural of the blue and green women (done by Mac for our “Urban Nature” exhibit) glowing, smiling, seemingly enjoying the music with us.  If you have not purchased tickets to join us this year for one of our amazing concerts (see the list at http://concerts.botanicgardens.org/), let this be your warning to get on board early next year–they sell out quickly!  But even if you aren’t coming for concerts, you have to come and see these murals of gigantic women (along with the rest of the “Urban Nature” exhibit).  Of course, even more spectacular are the floral displays, which seem to change daily.  My favorites right now are the modest but gorgeous columbine in peak bloom right now, the irises that are still going strong, and the incredible color in the Water-Smart Garden.  It’s going to be a great summer, I can feel it!
