Denver Botanic Gardens today officially bid farewell to one of its long-time employees, Joe Tomocik, curator of aquatic collections. After serving the Gardens for 31 years, mere words in this blog will not capture the essence of Joe’s service to the Gardens. A whole book on Joe would be more like it! The establishment and success of Denver Botanic Gardens’ aquatic program and collections can be attributed to Joe’s hard work and dedication.

The water gardens at Denver Botanic Gardens, despite their slow start this spring on account of hail and cooler weather could not be more spectacular than it is right now. Artistically choreographed by Joe Tomocik, Curator of Aquatic Collections, our aquatic displays are one of the best in the country. Assisting Joe every year with installation and dismantling of the displays are volunteers from the Colorado Water Garden Society.

On this Thanksgiving Day as I ponder all the things I am thankful for, one that comes to the forefront is how fortunate I am to work at the Denver Botanic Gardens. With a mission of connecting people with plants, along with my team of talented horticulturists, I have the unique opportunity to reach the lives of others through plants.
